Supports Workplace Health & Safety through ‘Psychological Safety’

The Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 now requires employers to recognise employees’ mental health when creating safe workplaces. Employers have a duty to take all reasonable and practical steps to protect employees from being injured in the workplace both physically and mentally. That is, they must ensure the workplace is also ‘psychologically safe’ - free from hazards such as harassment, discrimination, bullying, violence and mental stress that could cause harm to employees’ mental health. This workshop will assist an organisation to meet this legislative requirement.

How ‘A Coffee with Garth’ was born

The café scene is a major part of people's lifestyles. For individuals it is an extension of their living room and for businesses it has become a popular venue for meetings. A café is an environment that creates an atmosphere which is enjoyable, relaxed, informal and non-threatening. Therefore, individuals feel comfortable to open up, resulting in constructive communication and interaction. Since Garth is a regular patron of cafés, he realised it would be fantastic to be able to replicate this atmosphere into his presentations. Thus ‘A Coffee with Garth’ was born.

The book and the presentation

‘Bite Size Chunks to Success – Controlling Stress’ evolved from Garth’s vast professional and personal experiences that he has encountered and the lessons he learnt from these experiences. ‘A Coffee with Garth’ shares these lessons in a practical and enjoyable way that is explained in plain English and straight to the point. This results in the participants being able to relate to the information and therefore easily applying it into their day-to-day life, adding positive tangible value.

Garth’s style

In property they say that it is all about Location, Location, Location. Garth feels that to succeed in business and life in general it’s all about People, People, People. This has been proven to Garth by the successes he has experienced through his ability to connect and get along with people. This has always been one of Garth’s strengths along with his down to earth nature and great sense of humour. Garth strongly believes the respect of others is earned through their recognition of your actual achievements. As Henry Ford said, “You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do”.

Garth’s professional experience

Garth has diverse experience across different sectors including retail, finance and social services with organisations such as; The Warehouse, Westpac, McDonald’s, Youth Horizons Trust and Aspire2 Business - holding Operations Management, Human Resources, Learning & Development, BDM and Account Manager roles.

He has developed two business ventures from conception through to commercialisation, and is a published author of 'Bite Size Chunks to Success – Controlling Stress', which is endorsed by Sir Stephen Tindall. He is a certified International Coaching Federation (ICF) Transformative Coach and provides business mentoring.

Garth’s current business 'expand' (expanding emotional wellness) evolved from the lessons of his personal journey of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Self-Realisation. He wondered why certain situations triggered emotions within himself, which usually had a negative impact on him to function. Through wanting to change the repetitive emotional cycle around specific situations, he created his coaching model 'Castle’s Coaching Model for EQ Self-Realisation', which is endorsed by Clinical Psychologist Dr Matt Shepherd. He now enjoys sharing his journey around Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to support others to expand their emotional Self-Realisation.

Due to Garth’s book, professional experience and business ventures, he has featured in several media articles both in New Zealand and Australia. These include; the NZ Herald, NZ Business magazine, PC World magazine, Business to Business paper, Start Up magazine, The Aucklander, MLM magazine, Brisbane City News, Gold Coast Health & Harmony Guide, plus appearing on TVNZ’s Good Morning Show.

It is from these experiences, and from his many personal experiences, that Garth draws upon when presenting ‘A Coffee with Garth’.
