Expanding Emotional Intelligence through Self-Realisation

-For the Aged Care Sector

It is a well-known fact that when an elderly person moves into an Aged Care facility it can take several months (sometimes years) for the resident to fully accept and adjust to their new environment and circumstances. This is especially so if they had to involuntary move into the facility due to ill health.  This experience can be extremely stressful and unsettling for the individual and for their family. There will always be a period of grieving, especially in areas such as loss of independence, as grieving is a natural process.  However, this period can be shortened and less intense when there is an emotional wellness intervention.

There is no doubt Aged Care facilities do an excellent job with care plans however these usually have a strong focus on physical care and less on the emotional care. It is important there is a detailed emotional aspect in a care plan as emotional wellbeing directly impacts on the resident’s physical wellbeing.

This course is ideal for Nurse Managers, RNs and HCAs to gain a better understanding of Emotional Intelligence so to be able to develop and implement an emotional care plan that involves working alongside the family of the resident. The course has the same content as the general course and then builds on this information by focusing on emotional wellness for residents in an Aged Care facility.
